Today's Theme
Sometimes the hardest moments in faith are not when God is absent—but when He does something we did not expect. He delays when we thought He would act. He allows what we thought He would prevent. He answers differently than we prayed. These moments can quietly shake our expectations of who God is and how He works. This series explores the tension between expectation and reality—where disappointment meets faith, and where trust must grow deeper than understanding.

When God Works in Ways You Didn’t Recognize
Devotional
Sometimes God answers our prayers—but not in the way we expected. Because we are looking for a specific outcome, we may miss the way He is actually moving. The disciples on the road to Emmaus were walking with Jesus after the resurrection, yet they did not recognize Him. They expected a Messiah who would restore Israel politically, so they failed to see the Savior walking beside them. Expectations can blind us to God’s activity.
Scripture Reading
Luke 24:13–16, 30–31 — The disciples recognize Jesus John 20:14–16 — Mary recognizes Jesus in the garden Isaiah 45:15 — God works in hidden ways
Refreshing for the Day
God may already be answering your prayers in ways you did not recognize. God may be working quietly through unexpected people, slow progress, or circumstances that do not immediately look like answers. What we overlook today may later become clear evidence of His hand. God is always at work—even when His methods surprise us. Faith learns not only to trust God’s promises but also to recognize His presence in unexpected ways. Stay Refreshed!
