Today's Theme

Sometimes the hardest moments in faith are not when God is absent—but when He does something we did not expect. He delays when we thought He would act. He allows what we thought He would prevent. He answers differently than we prayed. These moments can quietly shake our expectations of who God is and how He works. This series explores the tension between expectation and reality—where disappointment meets faith, and where trust must grow deeper than understanding. This is where faith matures—from what you thought God would do… to trusting who He truly is.

When God Doesn’t Show Up the Way You Expected

Devotional

We all carry expectations of how God should move. We imagine how He will answer, when He will act, and what the outcome will look like. But sometimes God moves differently. John the Baptist expected a certain kind of Messiah—yet when Jesus did not match that expectation, he questioned. From prison, he asked, “Are You the One?” Jesus responded, not with explanation, but with evidence of His works—and a gentle warning: “Blessed is anyone who does not stumble because of me.”

Scripture Reading

Matthew 11:2–6 — John questions Jesus Isaiah 55:8–9 — God’s ways higher than ours Luke 24:25–27 — Misunderstood expectations

Refreshing for the Day

God does not always meet our expectations. But He always fulfills His purpose. Faith is not trusting God to act how you want. It is trusting Him even when He doesn’t. When God does not match your expectation, it is an invitation to know Him more deeply—not through assumption, but through revelation. God may not meet your expectations—but He will never fail His purpose. Stay Refreshed!
