Certainly, the joy of the Lord is a deep wellspring of strength that sustains us through life’s challenges and difficulties. But we must also note that joy is not the absence of trials, but the presence of God’s grace within them. It’s not a guarantee of trouble-less life; but, however, amid them we’re persistently joyful. The apostle Paul in Philippians 4:4 was a testament to this reality. He was in the prison, faced with numerous hardships and yet, in them all, he encouraged rejoicing in the Lord always.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.James 1:2-4 (NIV)

So, our choice to rejoice in difficult times is an act of faith that acknowledges God’s sovereignty and His ability to turn even the darkest situations for our good. Stay Refreshed!
